Childlessness Transformed: Stories of Alternative Parenting

Editor's Note - Ana Holub

Working on this book as copy editor has been like sitting down to a sumptuous Thanksgiving feast with the whole family. For though I haven't met many of my "table-mates," the contributors in Childlessness Transformed, I do include myself in the expanding clan of those desiring to live something more than we ever have before.

As a parent, I appreciate true care for my child from other loving adults. The exchange of inspiration and playful freedom is often a gift for all involved - kids, parents and friends. Many of the participants interviewed express this same enthusiasm. Though they are not parents themselves, they have learned that there are plenty of wonderful, sometimes "hungry" children in this world who are ready to give and receive wholeheartedly.

The contributors in this book are active, vibrant people, many of them deeply involved in environmental and healing work. They are beacons of example through their perserverence, love and servicethe same qualities that are strengthened in true biological parenting. From hairdressing to acting, television producing to photography, these newfound friends give of themselves, reveling in the challenges that arise from living honest and alive in the world.

Those of us who are expanding in love and care for ourselves, each other and the Earth are finding one another. Our true family, growing constantly in the inclusive embrace of everyone, is becoming tangible and joyously real in our lives. I welcome all readers, biological parents or not, to enjoy the delicious repast in this book, and to participate by learning and giving of your own parenting. You will add your unique offering to the feast!
