In 1974, Gia-fu Feng and I travelled in Europe, both to lead Tai Chi workshops and to be tourists. One day after we had lunch with Joeseph Needham at Cambridge, I drove our rented car (on the "wrong " side of the roads) north a ways to the site of an old priory we saw marked on our map.
It was a grey February day so the light was soft as I photographed the ruins of the monastery on the well-kept grassy grounds. During that trip I made many images that juxtaposed trees with ancient architecture. This is one of my favorites.
